Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 21, 2026
1. Introduction
OwlScope ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our macOS application and website at owlscope.app.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Desktop Application
OwlScope is designed with a privacy-first architecture. The desktop application:
- Runs 100% locally on your Mac.
- Does not collect telemetry, usage analytics, or behavioral data.
- Does not transmit any data to external servers for its core functionality.
- Stores all usage statistics, habits, and preferences locally on your device in application-sandboxed storage.
The only network requests the application makes are:
- License verification: When you purchase Pro features, the app communicates with our licensing server to validate your purchase. This involves your email address and license key.
- Update checks: The app periodically checks for software updates via our Sparkle update feed.
2.2 Website & Account
When you create an account or make a purchase through our website, we collect:
- Email address: For account creation, purchase receipts, and support communications.
- Payment information: Processed securely by our Merchant of Record, Paddle.com. We do not store credit card numbers or bank details.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information solely to:
- Process purchases and deliver license keys for Pro features.
- Authenticate your account and validate entitlements.
- Provide customer support when you contact us.
- Send critical product updates (e.g., security patches). No marketing emails unless you opt in.
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Paddle.com: Our Merchant of Record for payment processing. Paddle handles all payment data under their own privacy policy. See: Paddle Privacy Policy.
- Sparkle: Open-source macOS update framework. Update checks contact our own server only.
5. Data Storage & Security
Account data is stored on servers with encrypted connections (TLS/SSL). All application data (usage stats, habits, menu configurations) remains on your local device and is never uploaded. We implement industry-standard security measures including RSA-SHA256 signature verification for license validation.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request access to the personal data we hold about you.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Withdraw consent for any optional data processing.
- Export your data in a standard format.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@owlscope.app.
7. Cookies
Our website uses essential cookies only — specifically for authentication session management. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising pixels, or analytics cookies.
8. Children's Privacy
OwlScope is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of OwlScope after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
